WHEN: July 2nd 2022
WHERE: Meet at 8276 Devilbiss Bridge Rd, Walkersville MD, 21793 (Boat Ramp)
TIME: 10am -3pm
Join us in making a difference on May 22nd as we begin our annual cleanups of the local Monocacy river!
We will begin our kayaking run meeting at Devilbiss boat ramp; 8276 Devilbiss Bridge Rd and end at Pinecliff Park; 1801 Monocacy Blvd Frederick, MD 21701, behind the At Home store.
This section of the river is challenging as it takes 3 hours to paddle on a normal day. Because we will be removing trash, we will limit our cleanup time to one hour which will leave a 2 to 3 hour paddle out. We ask that all volunteers to please be physically capable of doing this run. We will be collecting as much debris and garbage we can carry.
River rescue will provide waters, trash bags and pokers for collecting trash out of the water. We also will provide transportation back to the put in spot for volunteers to get their vehicles.
All volunteers should bring a packed lunch and any snacks they would like for the duration. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, so there is no pressure to stay with the group. All that we ask is that you remove trash along your way.
Unfortunately at this moment we have no extra boats or kayaks to offer, however those that still want to participate are free to collect trash at the boat ramps. This is always a huge help as these are popular hangout spots.
River Rescue is extremely grateful for any volunteers that are willing to sacrifice their day for the greater good of all! For any questions or concerns reach out at kayce@modernwitchdoctor.com, otherwise we'll see you there!
The health of our waterways plays a crucial role in the health of all ecosystems. When our rivers and streams becomes poisoned and filled with debris, it becomes a detrimental situation to all life.
Unfortunately dumping and littering in local rivers has become all to common.
In an effort to restore health to our local waterways, River Rescue/ Modern WitchDoctor creates cleanup events throughout the spring and summer seasons which consist of volunteers kayaking for a cause. We meet a designated location and head down river collecting any and all trash we can carry. Although this is a kayaking event, there still plenty to do for those without boats.
Most locations and boat ramps we meet at are also a hot spot for people to gather, therefore we find plenty of trash. We are grateful for any individuals that stick around to help clean these areas.
Our program provides waters, trash bags, trash collecting pokers and and we shuttle everyone back to their vehicles with their boats at the end of the trip. At the moment we do not have any extra kayaks for others to use, but we are always grateful for any donations towards this cause.
Clean up events will resume in the Spring. Sign up for our newsletter or follow our Facebook to be notified!!
We are a volunteer group that consist of everyday people willing to give their time for greater cause. Donations go to expenses such as waters, trashbags, fuel and extra boats. These donations by generous individuals is what keeps our program in motion and helps us restore health to these once beautiful thriving rivers. If your willing to donate to a good cause, link below
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve local river conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
